Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost to have my ears pierced?
We charge a $25 sitting fee plus the cost of the earrings themselves. The total price to have your ears pierced is between $40 - $70 choosing from our in-stock earring options.
What do you use to pierce ears?
We use the Inverness Ear Piercing System which has been in use for more than 45 years now in jewelry stores, department stores, salons, pharmacies, doctors’ offices, and body piercing shops in over 40 countries around the world. To date, it has been used to pierce over 200 million pairs of ears throughout the world.
What makes the Inverness Piercing System "safe"?
The Inverness System has two unique features designed to ensure the safest ear piercing experience possible.
1. Inverness is the only ear piercing system with fully-enclosed earring capsules that prevent our piercing earrings and exclusive Safety Back™ from being exposed to potential contaminants prior to piercing. Our earring capsules are sealed in sterilized cartridges that are not opened until selected for piercing. Unlike other systems on the market, our earrings are not exposed until they are safely inserted in the ear.
2. Our exclusive Safety Back™ allows for the safest healing possible by shielding the piercing tip and preventing the earring back from being squeezed too tight. This allows for proper airflow and prevents the earring back from becoming embedded during the healing process.
Can I use my own earring?
No. Piercing ears require sterile earrings. We use fully-enclosed sterile earring capsules to ensure the safest ear piercing possible. This prevents the piercing earring from being exposed to possible contaminants prior to piercing.
Do you use hypo-allergenic earrings?
Yes. We offer a wide range of hypoallergenic metal choices including 14k gold, medical grade stainless steel, and palladium wich range in price from $15 - $45.
Ear Piercing for Babies & Children
Is it safe to pierce my baby's ears?
Yes. Babies are pierced at a very young age worldwide. It is recommends that parents wait until after the first DPT vaccination which is usually administered at 8 weeks. However, this is a personal decision, and we recommend that you discuss your plans with your baby’s pediatrician before piercing.
Can you pierce both ears at the same time?
Yes. Although we don't recommend this technique for infants we regularly pierce children's ears at the same time to help minimize some of the nervousness that comes with having your ears pierced.
Cartilage & Other Piercings
Can you do body piercing?
No. Our piercing instrument is designed to pierce the earlobe and the outer cartilage of the ear. We recommend contacting a dedicated body piercing location for other types of piercings.
Can you do cartilage piercing?
Yes. The same technique of lobe piercing can be used to pierce the cartilage. There is a greater risk of infection/complication however due to improper care of cartilage piercings.
If problems should arise we recommend seeking medical attention.
Tips for Newly-Pierced Ears
How long does it take for an ear piercing to heal?
The average healing time is 6 weeks for an earlobe piercing and 12 weeks for a cartilage piercing. We recommend leaving your piercing earrings in and following your aftercare instructions for the entire healing period.
Is it OK to change my earrings or take them out during the healing period?
You should only switch into new earrings after the healing period: 6 weeks for an earlobe piercing and 12 weeks for a cartilage piercing. Newly-pierced ears are very sensitive and require special care and attention. If you take your earrings out for any length of time during the healing period, the holes may close or you may find it to be very difficult to re-insert earrings into a piercing hole that has not fully healed.
What is the best way to care for my new earrings?
Caring for your new piercing is just as important as the piercing itself. Always wash your hands thoroughly before touching your ears or piercing earrings.
Cleanse the front and the back of the earring site 2-3x daily with the provided Inverness Aftercare Solution. Rotate the earrings completly during cleansing to prevent the posts from adhearing to the ear.
